10 WAYS TO WINTERIZE YOUR HOME
- Make sure your gutters are clean and free of debris. Use a hose to rinse.
- Unhook outdoor hoses from faucets before the first freeze.
- Caulk all the leaks around doors and windows in your home to keep the chilly Minnesota winter winds out.
- Insulate your attic. Have at least 12-14 inches of insulation in your attic.
- Have your furnace cleaned and inspected each year.
- Every 5-7 years have your ducts blown out to free them of dust, debris, and hair.
- If you have a fireplace have your chimney cleaned and inspected annually. Have a metal ash bucket to hold ashes.
- Ceiling fans should be spinning in a clockwise position.
- Repair any cracked windows.
- Make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector on each floor of your home. It’s an inexpensive way to insure your families safety. Also make sure your smoke alarms are in working order. Change those batteries!
